You can't own a copyright over any symbol or logo, much less a universal symbol. You can trademark a unique symbol or logo, which is totally different then a copyright

A "universal" symbol is a pre-existing one and is in the public domain. No, you cannot copyright it.

no. those are public domain. now... what you can do is take a universally used symbol, change it a little, and own the rights to that.
