I remember this character, but not his name. His only desire was to be returned to a state of unconsciousness. Not really a "villain" per se, but just always angry whenever awakened, causing Superman problems. His desire for perfect "nothingness" struck a chord in me as a teenager. Anyone remember his name? This would have been print comics. Thanks!

Sounds like the JLA villain, the amazing android Amazo! He would always absorb their powers, then they would deactivate him. It doesn't sound like any villain that Superman faced alone.

Sounds like Amazo, and I think perhaps the storyline from 1979 or 80, when he drains Supes' powers, so Supes constructs the flying Supermobile to battle him. Ran for 3 issues in Action Comics, if I recall
