Moving to Seattle from the east coast in the next 6 months and wondering what kind of paramedic opportunies are avaiable? Currentley working for AMR and may try to transfer to the Seattle area. Any advice? I've mostly worked in private (911 and transfer). Thanks!

Why are you asking here? AMR has a site with job postings. I assume you know that if you work for them.

Could you be any more insulting to everyone who does not happen to be a Paramedic? I really hope you do not decide to work as a nurse. Patients deserve better than just "OK". I also don't get what your history lesson is all about either for Paramedics. It just shows how little Paramedics have gone when it comes to education. There are many professions who were not even heard of in the 60s but have surpassed the Paramedic in education and advancement opportunities. The PA didn't start to evolve until about the same time as the Paramedic which is the mid 60s. They now want a Masters degree for entry in some states. SLPs are now Masters and they became recognized as professionals just in the 60s also even though, like "ambulance drivers" they had been around for awhile. RTs didn't get licensure until the 80s and they are now an Associates and preparing for a Bachelors entry. All of these professionals are just as important as Paramedics. Nurses also take care of 9 - 10 patients for an entire 12 hours and not just one at time. If you think doing one to one for 10 patients over 12 hours you will never make it as an RN and definitely not in the ED where you might see 30 patients easily during 12 hours. The nasty and violent patients you hated or were afraid of as a Paramedic will be all yours for 12 hours and there won't be a police escort. Nurses are now expected to have a 4 year college degree. Paramedic is still a certificate program and Michigan has some of the lowest standards in the US. They don't even want their programs to be accredited and are fighting the NREMT over that. Michigan also has many volunteer agencies where EMTs and Paramedics do what you do for free. Imagine that! They get no pay at all and still do the job. Get off your high horse about factory workers also. If you even has any idea what some factory workers do you would understand why they need unions and why they get paid a decent wage. You obviously don't want to do that work or if you were in it just for the money it might be an option. Being a waitress is also nothing to be ashamed of either. In Paramedic school you should have been working as an EMT. Maybe then you would have realized what you would be making and would have chosen a different path. Paramedics do make great money if they are also Firefighters or work for a county or city. If it was as easy as you say, I don't know why you didn't go that route. I think you are also forgetting Firefighters also fight fires as well as caring for patients in emergencies. You would have to stay current and train continuously for bother firefighting and Paramedic to stay proficient at both. Now you only have to do one thing which is why you are not paid as much as a Firefighter. I can't imagine why you think firefighting is a walk in the park compared to EMT. Most Firefighters are EMTs and Paramedics. In summary, don't be a nurse. Patients and others nurses or other health care professionals deserve better than someone who doesn't want to be a nurse and who will do a half-arsed job just to collect a paycheck.

From what I understand, all Seattle 911 calls are handled by the Seattle Fire Department. They actually put any newly hired paramedics through their own paramedic training school. Seems like a really big pain to me. They have a really good reputation, though.
You might try getting a job with a non emergency transport service, but what fun is that?
Other counties in Washington state will use private ambulance services. You just have to ask around and find out which counties are hiring.
There's always jobs to be had as ER techs in local hospitals.
Hope this helps!

AMR does not have Medics in Seattle they have the contract with the city to provide BLS only. AMR and Rural Metro in Tacoma hire Medics activly. Also AMR in Spokane hires Medics for its 911 contract. You should find work other than AMR. AMRs leadership team is a train wreck.
