i would like to know if it is ok for a 2 months pregnant woman to travel on bumpy road and hiking. We already book for the road to hana tour in maui and the waterfall hiking in honolulu. i dont know if we should cancel the tours.
we also book for the polynesian cultural center in honolulu which require walking for a whole day. Do you think a 2 month pregnant woman can deal with that

My only concern is if these activities will do my sister and her baby any harm

Please advise

It will not do any harm, but my wife is pregnant right now, and for the first 3 months she has had no energy. Your sister will probably need to take frequent breaks, alot of water, and just don't overdo it.

First of all, she will be further along than 2 months. You are 2 weeks pregnant when you actually "make" the baby. So she is probably about 2 months now. I wouldn't say that those activities are bad for her unless she has health problems or a high-risk pregnancy (her doctor will let her know this). Also, if she has had miscarriages in the past or other problems, I would stay away from it. I think that unless her doctor says otherwise, she should be the one to decide if she feels good about doing the activities. She should just talk to her doctor though to be safe.

The road to Hana isn't bumpy, but it is very winding and it takes about 3 hours to go 57 miles. If she's feeling sick she's not going to want to do it. Other than maybe not feeling up to it (tired, sick, etc) there shouldn't be anything that you're planning that could hurt the baby.

Check with her doctor, of course, in case there are any underlying problems that might cause trouble, but in a normal healthy woman just hiking and driving and flying won't cause any problems with pregnancy.

Being pregnant should not stop you from enjoying a day out on the road. There are many things provided by a tours like ginger, pineapple and other tropical fruits that help ease car sickness on the road. Someone, like a tour guide, who have driven the road thousands of times, knows how to provide the smoothest drive on that winding road to ease the chance of motion sickness. Also a guide knows all the clean bathroom stops which is important.

As long as she has no previous history of high risk pregnancy she should be fine. Women with no abnormal risks are generally encouraged to continue being as active as they were before until they feel awkward and uncomfortable. When I was pregnant this included springboard diving until I felt 'off balance'. My doctor said until my center of gravity changed I was fine...and I was.

Walking is a great exercise for a pregnant woman up til delivery, as long as she has no special risks. Pack some high energy snacks, in case you guys get the munchies and have a great time!

I know because of the pressure of taking an airplane flight can affect the fetus, but I'm not sure how far along she would be for that. The bumpy road and hiking is fine, though. She's not so far along that her health, or the baby's, would be affected by any of your activities.

It shouldn't be a problem at all. In fact, the exercise is good for her and the baby. Make sure she drinks plenty of water, stays nourished, and takes breaks when she neeeds to. You may want to take snacks with you for the plane trip, in case she feels nauseaus on the plane.

I think the best person to get an answer from would be your sister's doctor. Either way, if your sister feels ill or becomes uncomfortable, I think she should stop that activity. (Ill or uncomfortable other than the usual nausea and uncomfortable stuff)
