Question

1.Write an expression for the volume of a rectangular prism if the length is 5 feet shorter than some x amount, the width is 3 feet longer than x, and the height is x feet.

a.v=(x-5)(x-3)(x)
b.v=(5-x)(3+x)(x)
c.v=(x-5)(x+3)(x)

2.Multiply the expression (3+x)(x-4) to find its most simple form.
A.x^2-x-12
B.x^3-7x^2-12x
C.x^3-x^2-12x

In question 1, c look like its the right answer doesn't it. the height is x. The length is x-5, the width is x+3. Volume = (L) (W) (H).

2. A. is the answer to the 2nd one. I would have written it: xsquared - x - 12.

Why did you find these to be hard to answer? For the 2nd problem you just multiply the 2 together and actually do the math.

I would think it would be easier to do the math than type up the questions, but I would be interested in 10 points. Thanks for the 2 pts.
Maybe you should ask for some help? Lots of us mom types would do it for nothing.

l = 5 - x
w = 3 + x
h = x
v = l * w * h
use substitution

Take the first number in the first parenthesis and multiple with the first in the second parenthesis.
3 * x = what
Take the first and multiply by second
3 * -4 = what
take the second and multiply by first
x * x = what
take the second and multiply by the second
x * -4 = what
add them together and you have your answer.

The easy way to figure this out since it's multiply choice is look at x * x = x^2. since you're never going to have x^3 then it will never be B or C, so logical conclusion is A.

You are never going to learn this stuff if you don't ask your teacher to explain it better. People on here are just going to give you the answers. I know that seems cool to you because you don't have to do it but that means you are not earning your own grades so you really can't take credit for it.
Ask your teacher before class to HELP you solve these and explain to him/her that you don't understand how to do it. It is their JOB to TEACH you these things.
