I live in Minnesota, the northern most of the 48 continental states. They are like people who live a few miles away from you. No big deal.

I don't want to really generalize, but on my only trip to canada ever single person that realized i was an american, acted as if i was either going to kill them or just some ******...they all....well hated me as an american... i never disrespected any of them, but they all disrespected me... so after that my general view on canadians is that they can all goto hell

They live (usually) north of me and they always seem to look and act like my friends and family. In fact, I'm starting to suspect that they may be just plain folk like my neighbors that live closer.
