I know most places, when you start, make you wait 2 weeks before your first pay check. I started working for a local restaurant and have been working for a week now as of yesterday. The thing is, is that they get paid every 2 weeks....so I was thinking, would they pay me this Monday or would they make me wait another 2 weeks!?

The actual pay period usually ends a week before the checks are issued in order to process everything, so chances are you will have to wait until the next pay period.

Pay can be all over the board. I work in a major corporation. Our hourly people are paid in arrears. So this week's work is paid out next week. That's so we can pay the overtime.

The salaried workers are paid current. So my check this week was for everything worked thru Friday.

Since all companies handle this differently, don't be afraid to ask your boss. In my company we have 3 different cycles. Some people get paid weekly, some bi-weekly and some monthly. In my old company people some people got paid semi-monthly too.

Your payperiods should be posted somewhere at your work. Depending on when your payperiod ends you may be waiting 3 weeks for your first paycheck. Be patient, just think your 1st check will be twice the amount you thought you were going to get.
