I would like to hear some intellectual and thoughtful questions. Good grammar would be a breath of fresh air.

Way past 40. 61. I wonder about the grammar and spelling too but my granddaughter says that when you are on the net or text messaging young people spell the way they do for expediency. My granddaughter is a straight A student with good grammar and spelling. Go figure.

Yes, I'm well over 40. The bad spelling and grammar, even for expediency, gets to me too. But I've answered some very thoughtful questions posed by people. Some days there seems to be nothing but trash, other days you find more intelligence floating around. Of course, you have to consider that some of the questions come from people who don't know much about life, and they're trying to find out. I'm glad you asked because avatars are not accurate, they make everyone look like 25. The Yahoo folks should develop some attractive avatars for older folks. I've only seen one that I thought was a more sophisticated, worldly image. I think it would encourage more older folks to participate if not everyone looked like they were between the ages of 14 to 25.

Of course there are folks over 40 who offer answers here. Why not: y'all a'skeered of old folks, are ya? We don't bite! Yes, I agree, most of the questions asked here don't require a mensa candidate to answer. And the grammar and spelling frequently leave much to be desired. But consider: people do ask questions here about topics that matter very much to them. A young lady contemplating suicide may not be the best speller in the room or be able to phrase her query as if it were a Master's thesis, but she needs a careful and compassionate answer. That sort of question is what I trained for and have forty-plus years of experience answering: would you have me ignore her need because she worded it like a careless high school freshman? I won't ignore her, even if she IS a high school freshman. She's a living, breathing human in need, and if this old fart can help, I'll darn well do it! In fact, I did just that not ten minutes ago...now, is that a thoughtful enough response for ya?

Twenty-five answers all agreeing with you, so why is it they are not all asking intellectual and thoughtful questions instead of moaning about it?

What gives any of us the right to pass judgement on anyone else? I don't sit back wondering whether a question is worthy of my opinion or my 'vast' intellect, if it interests me I answer it, if not I move on and all this without the help of a spell checker.

Oh my God have I left a verb out? What about my commas, should they be semi-colons? I just don't know how I'm going to get through the day now with such worries.

Am 40 ++ and couldn't agree with you more, but hey let's bear in mind that probably we are in the minority and if we can help some of the younger generations with some of their genuine problems it is must be worth it.

Some of the Q. are ridiculous, rude, etc., etc., that may be the reason so many youngsters enjoy logging in - I don't know.

Have concerns that good grammar together with correct spelling isn't perhaps high on agenda of many School's curriculum.

Let's continue to play our part in helping others and doing the best we can. Did appreciate your comment.
