Peanuts -- the kind in the shell -- in a feeder. Don't use the salted kind. If there are squirrels around, they'll find the peanuts. But be prepared to rake up the shells once in a while. We buy ours at Costco. They're running $4.59 for 5 pounds right now. But I would resist the temptation to try feeding them by hand. They are wild animals, after all, and I'm told they sometimes have trouble telling the difference between a peanut and a finger.

Buy a squirrel feeder(seen these at Walmart) and get food for it. Squirrels are fun to watch but just keep feeding them or they could get into your attic and/or wiring of your house.

My kids have had great success with peanut butter sandwiches. We leave toast and bread heels on a platform we nailed to a tree, along with apple slices too. We have two squirrels that come that the kids named Toast and Crunchy

My wild birds can assure you that squirrell's enjoy their birdfeeder very much - and so do raccoons, chipmunks, various other woodland rodents - there's a few birds that get so aggravated that they will actually pluck patches of fur off of the squirrell's tail!

Get an apple tree. Gosh, those attract tons of squirrels, but also hornets and flies.

A bird feeder works really well. In fact, so well it is hard to keep them out and the birds in.
