Have you heard that if the heart beat goes faster its a girl/boy can't remember which way round!!! My friend is pregnant and believes she is having a girl on this theory. Agree or disagree?

It is supposed to be a boy if the heartbeat is over 150wpm, but in reality medical professionals state that this has not been proven. Heart rate varies depending on whether the baby is sleeping or active, not on gender.

She could try the Chinese gender prediction chart - lots of my friends say that is very active. Just google the above phrase and you should find it.

But...there is no real way to tell apart from a scan at around 18-20 weeks!

Hope she gets what she wants!

The theory is a boy heartbeat sounds like a train
and a girl a galloping horse(obviously not neighing)
To me they both sound similar-but when I was pregnant i had an obsession with the maternity programmes on sky, I like to use this to guess what people were having using this theory, and was often right-but suppose i had a 50/50 chance.

I believe the faster the heart beat is a boy. At least that's how it worked out for me.

There are some midwives who will swear to this. Basically they say that if the resting heartrate is below 140 it is a girl and if above it is a boy. I don't know if there is any research that proves this, but it has at least got a semi-scientific base to it (as opposed to the other crackpot old wives tales out there). It was correct in predicting my little boy last time, and based on it this time I am having a girl, but I will let you know in a weeks time when bubba has been born.

I asked my ob the same question because my babys heartbeat was fast and he said that the heartbeat varies the longer you are pregnant the only way of telling is by ultrasound and a aminocentsis for 100% accuaracy not by the heartbeat.

Old wives tale states that if the heartbeat is in the 110-130 range it is a boy, and 140+ it is a girl. I had three boys, and their heartrates were always in the lower range. My cousin had girls, and they were in the 150 range. Who knows? Seems to be some truth to it...

both my daughters had heartbeats of around 145-150. Apparentley boys are faster.
Its not an exact science but theory has worked for all my nieces/ nephews and friends kids.
