what is a sim free cell phone? does that mean it does not need a sim card

There is two diffrent types of cell phones in use today the GSM which uses sim cards and CDMA which does not use sim cards. Cingular and Tmobile are GSM whereas Sprint and Verizon are CDMA I hope this explained your question.

What Taz said. Although, some CDMA phone carriers that are in other parts of the world do use some sort of card, but it's called a RUIM.

a really really really old cell phone. Lol. Its best to have one with a sim card incase you need to dial 911.

any CDMA phone is sim free like verison phones
