Puerto Rico should become an independent country or a state. It doesn't matter which one, but something should happen to make one of the two occur.

Puerto Rico is a self governing commonwealth , it is not a colony.

I am sure Puerto Rico will become an independent republic with a friendly association with the US. Puerto Ricans are very proud of their own culture, spanish language and international representation. The whole country cheered the Puerto Rico basketball team at the World Olympics in Athens 2004 when it defeated the USA dream team. *(see link below)

In 1993 PR turned down the opportunity to be an independant country or be a state. They seem to like being a Commonwealth. The UN considers them an independent governing territory. So, technically they are not a colony.

Puerto Rico only seems like a colony, but it's a country with it's own president, economy, and laws.

I am sure that Puerto Rico will eventually become the next state of the United States of America.
