I agree with you. The prevent defense allows for the other (trailing) team to develop momentum and it puts the winning team in a passive, vulnerable posture. The aggressiveness of the winning team is what helped them in to a position of winning in the first place. Success in sports is based primarily on maintaining an upper hand through controlled aggression.
Winning, championship caliber teams make it a habit to put teams away, and give the opposing team no hope to come back when they have a significant advantage. A prevent defense keeps the door open.

The only thing that "Prevent Defenses" do is prevent victories. I should know, I've always been a Saints fan.

The prevent defense sucks. It is designed to allow the opposing offense to gain yaedage quickly. I believe coaches who use this should be shot
