I have a small fridge where the freezer is in the fridge and its just a little box with a door. Well I was chipping the ice off with a butter knife and a hammer and I hit one of the tubes on an accident. Now it is forcing out air and it smells funny and its not freezing ;o(

those tube in you frig are made of aluminum and you can't solder them, a repair man can seal them with epoxy and then replace the freon, it will cost you about $159.00 in my area.

That nasty smell is R-12, The type of freon that "used" to make it work. The hole can be repaired, But will cost about half of what a new fridge would. Sounds like you need a shopping day..

Yep it a goner now. Sad too because some of these last many generations, they not make them like that anymore. If, you ever have another like this and want to rush the ice melting, use a Hair Drier. You may solder the hole and then a Repairman may be able to add more Refrigerate. But, not sure of the cost.

you killed your fridge. the "air" is the refrigerant, and it all escaped... It will never work again.. You need to buy a new fridge.

thats why in the manual it tells you not to use tools to defrost them. You just turn it off, open up the door, and let the ice melt.

You lost the 'charge' of freon and to repair the hole and recharge the system would not be cost effective.
Being a small unit I'm sure replacement is the best choice.

Next time use a hair dryer to help speed up defrosting!

Well now you did it. As you found out you never, never use a sharp object in your freezer. You just punctured your refrigerant line. Unless it is a very expensive refrigerator go out and buy yourself a new one. The repair bill will not be cheap.

Nope. It is no good now. You made a leak and let the freon out of it. It will be cheeper to just get a new one now. Sorry
