I am not sure if this makes a difference or not, but I was born and raised catholic... and from reading other answers, I see it was not a catholic thing, most faiths feel that.. but.. you are not going to hell for premarital sex.. at least I hope not.. haha.. I am a person with a lot of faith, and I do not believe that God will punish me for using what he gave me. Passion is an emotion which he gave us. Now, on the other hand, there is a difference if the person committing the 'premarital sex' has done it on more than several occasions.. hahaha.. so in my opinion, if you are a slut or a man whore, you might have some answering to do...but to all the virgins out there? hang on to it. It is the only thing you can truly give to someone you love. My daughter is an advocate of 'save sex till marriage', I am so proud of her. My son, well.,. he is waiting to meet the right one for marriage.. but is testing the waters. I don't think it is a sin. Most people who are thinking premarital sex is under the age of 21...that is still youth.. young.. not a sin.. it is only a sin if you use it the wrong way.. and no explanation is needed for that one.. I think anyone reading this knows what I am trying to say here.

Whether ‘sex’ before marriage is a sin or not depends entirely on the person having it…

If you believe it is wrong to have sex before marriage, and you go ahead and do it, then ‘yes’ you have done something that you believed was wrong, and it can therefore be regarded as being a sin.

If, on the other hand, you believe there is nothing wrong with getting to know a person ‘intimately’ before you marry them, then ‘no’ it is not a sin!!!

Mind you… Having ‘sex’ is no guarantee that ‘marriage’ will follow. If the person you are having sex with decides you were a bit of a dead **** then he/she may well decide not to marry you.

Then there are people who will tell you that they’d really love to marry you, but want to get to know you ‘more intimately’ before they do. They don’t really have any intention of marrying you… they just want to get you in to bed!!!

Sex before marriage can be a good thing… Or it can turn out to be a major mistake!!!

I think your question is of a personal, and moral matter. Noone can possibly give you an answer or advice to this dilemma. If this is really a question you are interested in for yourself then you have to look into yourelf to see if you have any religious or christian feelings. Because I believe in a higher power called God I already know that his word forbids sex before marriage. Having said that I also know that because I am a sinner I have delved into this myself. Whatever you are comfortable with is what you do. If you are being pressured by someone to have sex, and you are not married to the person you should not give in if your upbringing tells you not to. Everyone wants to be loved, but you must decide if this is what it really is or just talk. I can only advise you to follow your mind, and heart.

Yes it is, however...it is really hard to say because sex has become so mainstream. But usually sex outside of marriage is considered a sin in the church.

It really depends on your religion...if you don't practice a religion, that really simplifies the subject. If you practice a certain religion though, it may very well be a sin. Many major religions are strongly against sex before marriage.

What the sin is is having Americans telling you what to do and what not to do for your marriage/dating etc. and this country has a 55% divorce rate.

We're not even batting .500 people!

Get a clue!

How about just worrying about staying married after you get married.

Yes - that's called fornication.

Some of the foremost Christian "sex experts" Tim and BEv LeHaye, have several books out on the subject,. and they suggest that increased (and increasing) intimacy is ok before marriage once you're engaged - but not sex.

I vaguely recall once reading a passage in the Bible that sex was ok if you were betrothed, but I can't find it now, so don't go on that!

For it to be a sin, you have to believe that it is. I guess if you subscribe to the unpractical christian philosophy on the subject, yes. But if you are a modern thinking person, who conducts herself with dignity and respect, and wan't to experience sex on her own terms, no. Bottom line, do what feels right to you. So long as you aren't hurting anyone else, it's nobody's business what you do.

In the bible it's a sin, and the catholic church also teaches that its a sin. Doesn't stop people doing it though.
