I use a magnetic mount tank bag on my Suzuki V-strom. It's big enough to carry sun glasses, cell phone, wallet and a water bottle, and maybe even a light pair of gloves... It sits on top of the gas tank and it's easy to reach everything I need while riding. It even has a nice clear plastic map pocket on the top so you can see your map page while riding

You should be able to find a similar bag that will work for your KLR at www.denniskirk.com
