Most places use a stainless steel peice of of jewelry of surgical grade for the initial peircing for medical reasons but some places offer different sizes and designs. You'll only know if you call the actual shop and ask.

When you get any piercing they always (or at least they should) put the standard jewelry in. For a labret piercing that would be a 16 gauge straight barbell standard stainless steel with a ball, or sometime they will use a captive hoop.

a standard labret is 14g not 16, some places will let you choose your jewelry others it's just plain. also you may have an option (if they prefer not to use gemstones or some such) to get a colored titanium (especially good if you have any metal allergies-it's also lighter than steel but at that gauge you really wouldn't notice it). Many shops prefer to use pre-autoclaved jewelry (in which case odds are you dont have a choice) some will clave it while you wait

Listen to scarlet. The standard size is a 14g. You can option to buy a different lebret stud and I only recommend to change the ball or spike or whatever is on the external. Leave whatever the piercer puts in it until it is healed or for at least a month and a half.
