You have to go for what you truly want in your heart, don't listen to what others say, you are the one that has to be happy with what you do career wise in the future not anyone else. I say go for it what do you have to lose? Don't listen to negative people go with what's in your heart.

Just a note of advice, in every job that one does they will all be competitve but, its what you put into your education that you get out of it. Study hard and make the best effort going forward and things will work out for you in the end. Every college degree program is going to be hard work but just put your mind to it and make sure your heart is into it full force and go with it.

A key is to network with others attending med school and network with others already in the medical industry for which you have an interest in because these are key relationships you can build for the future. Go ahead and talk to someone in your interest area field and interview them, find out the pro's and con's of the job, ask questions, a lot of them, just to see if the industry is truly for you and something you would be intersted in moving into for your future career endeavors. Try to see if you can also attend medical seminars or conferences so you can meet other medical professionals with similar interests like yourself.

In regards to the cost of medical school, I will suggest trying to do well in school and get the best grades you can and try to see if you can qualify for a scholarship or a grant (so you don't have to pay it back), they are out there but, you will have to sit down with your academic advisors and they can direct you appropriately.

There may be either interships available to you that will either give you college credit or a salary, maybe not a lot but it gives you the medical experience and or money to help pay for your classes. I worked while taking classes, and while it was difficult I survived. Yes there were times I thought I would never survive but I made it through to the end and just recently also completed my graduate studies. Its truly about how you balance your time, and studies.

I will suggest that you do NOT work your first couple of years while pursuing your degree but work your way into finding a job while attending classes. Part-time work is great because it will give you the work experience you will need and do NOT fill yourself up with a heavy load of courses either its not worth the headache. Take one step at a time and start off with a few course to see how you can handle them, 3 or 4 and then if you do well and feel comfortable with the course load and feel you can work or add another class on the list, then go for it.

A plus of taking a small course load gives you the chance to decide whther or not the med field is for you. Take two classes at first if you wish.

Just don't overload yourself with a full course load because you will have enough course work to do in each class, trust me!

If you have questions please feel free to email me and I would be glad to talk further to you if you wish.

You will be able to, once you graduate, and start work in the medical field and or start your own practice, if you go that route, which I do not suggest at least for the start of your career-the beginning phases (experience will count here and later on you can move into opening your own practice), I believe its worth getting on with a good medical practice and then work your way up. You will be able to make back your money in approximately 5 years that you spent on your college degree studies, just don't expect to make the money back in a year or two because it will NOT happen. Just a down to earth response with a little of reality check suggestions and advice.

Don't worry you will do alright going into the medical field, its one field that could never be outsourced to India because we will always need good talented individuals as yourself in the medical industry!

At this point in time the BEST industry that you can be in is the medical industry, especially with all the biological chemical issues, birds flu, cancer research, you name it - the medical industry will never go away as some other industry may due to the large quanitities of organizations outsourcing our jobs to different countries worldwide.

Please don't think otherwise because you will probably think "what if" if you do not decide to go to med school and then you might have a little regret in you later on, which is something you do not want to happen.

Best of luck to you in what you decide to do and I hope you just go with your heart.

Let us know what you decide!

Go for it, if it is your dream you cant go wrong if it doesnt work out there is always a chance to do something else but you will never know if you dont try it. I was wanting to be a nurse all my life dropped out, but now I realize I made the right decision. It opened my eyes to the world around me and know I have a very succesful store in a tourist town I have been at it for 5 years and can't imagine doing anything else. Without trying for the nursing first I would always be wondering if i did the right thing

If you are ready for lots of hard work, days without sleep, a lot of studying and no social life go for it. It will pay off in the long run. You do not have to be the best. We desperately need doctors. Good Luck.

Thats your problem!! Your listening to everyone else instead of paying attention to the only one that matters, which is you. You are the only one that can live your life. If medical school is what you really want to do then do it. Don't listen to everyone else. You are going to always have people in your life that hold you down, but you just have to brush that aside. You need to watch out for number one and that is you. Yes it's hard work, yes it's competitive, and yes it's expensive. But if it's something that you want to do, then it's worth it.

Go for your dreams!!! Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do anything that you want to do. I have learned that the people that tell you that kind of junk have 1 of 2 motives. 1) they are jealous that you are going for your dream because they were/are afraid to try for their own dreams or 2) they are afraid that you will do better than they will/have in their own lives. If you fail at it then you will at least have the knowledge that you went for your dream and NEVER settled for less simply because someone else told you not to. That would be one of the BIGGEST regrets of your life. Go for it, Doctor!!!!!

Always do what you want and what you think is right in situations like this. At the end of the day, it's your call... and life, not your friends'.
