Hi everyone! I am planning to move to Vancouver from Toronto this yr.
Which area in Vancouver do u think is best for me?
Scenario:
-good for people like me who work in hotels, and likes the mix of city and nature views.
-will rent an affordable apartment (or maybe in basement for a start) but in a safe area.
Please HELP (be specific if possible). Thanks!

Overall, Vancouver is a fairly safe city to live in. Avoid the lower east side .... locals will tell you where that is at ... also, personally, I would avoid parts of Surrey ... and for traffic reasons, all of surrey.

The downtown westside has a very dense population, lots of highrise apartment buildings, and other apartment structures, and it's a cool place to be.

All of the Vancouver area is scenic, some more than others, but there is a view about everywhere, of something cool.

West Vancouver (it's across the water from Vancouver) is awesome but expensive. North Vancouver (also across the water) would be very nice, but commuting time if you worked in Vancouver would be a bit more trying.

If you like funky, look in the Commercial Drive area, should be affordable, and it's a neat community.

Overall, there are only a few places you really wouldn't want to live, and a whole lot of really awesome areas. Perhaps you could visit before you move to get a feel for the area and where you want to be?

With its mountain foundation and metropolitan beaches, Vancouver has got the rightly received trustworthiness of being one of the very wonderful cities on earth, with hotelbye you can have the opportunity to see this amazing city. Among the areas you'll need to see in Vancouver is the Downtown Vancouver. Downtown Vancouver is superbly based on a peninsula in the Strait of Georgia bounded to the south by the delta of the Fraser River and to the north with a heavy fiord achieving much inland. Here you can even see the frequently snow-covered ranges of the Coast Mountains. Stanley Park is one of the most visited parks. Is really a rich Peninsula Park of huge woods nearby to Downtown Vancouver. A paved seawall journey encircles the natural space, and most guests take the time to discover on base or by bicycle. Inland, the park presents a lot of things to accomplish, and readers can invest the full day exploring attractions ranging from the totem rods at Brockton Point to the west shore sea living at the Vancouver Aquarium. Spectacular opinions certainly are a standard through the entire park.

Best places as far as accessibility is probably the coquitlam/burnaby area. Nice big malls and supermarkets. The new skytrain loop makes for easy transport into the city. There are highrise apartments everywhere, is a good area if you are a student as it is not far from Simon Fraser University. Nature views will be easy to find as the Fraser River is very close by as are the lovely coast mountains.
Keep in mind that the coming olympic games in 2010, has made the vancouver area a very exensive place to live. But finding an affordable place to live is not impossible, if you have a good agent they will usually come through for you. Good luck and I hope you grow to love Vancouver as much as we do.

You need to look for an apartment in what they call the "West End" which is a large area of High Rise Apartments between Downtown and Stanley Park. The most desirable apartments are the ones closest to Stanley Park. There is excellent Bus Service and a lot of good Hotels in Downtown Vancouver.

Well, obviously I have to recommend TSAWWASSEN!!! Tsawwassen is the best place in Vancouver, although there is absolutely nothing to do here...

I like downtown Vancouver a lot... Robson St, Granville St, Burrard St, that whole area is nice... If you go down towards the water a bit (honestly I have no idea what direction its in, I just know how to get there) you get to Hastings and if you go east on Hastings you get to the best part of Vancouver, filled with drugs and homeless people, so avoid that area...

Surrey is nice in some areas, but generally not the best place to live... It's got lots of drugs, crazy awesome parties if your under 25... Guildford isn't a great area in Surrey but they have some good parties, wouldnt say its safe there tho...

Ladner smells, honestly and truely it smells very bad there, its safe, but once again nothing to do...

Richmond is full of Asians, lots to do there, but if you want a safe place to drive, I strongly recommend never going into Richmond... They prolly have the worst driving you will ever see in Canada...

North Van is a fairly nice area I think, if you like to snowboard its near the mountains...

Abbotsford is pretty safe and nice too, but its in the middle of ****** no where...

So really, your best option, is obviously Tsawwassen!

Anywhere in the Kitsilano/Kerrisdale area would be good. It's close to downtown, and as UBC students live in the area, there are lots of smallish but reasonable apartments, including basement suites.
West End is fun, but pretty pricey.

I agree that the West End would be the best spot as that way you are within walking distance of a number of hotels. This way you can save time on commuting, save money on transportation and get to know the city while getting some exercise. Enjoy.

Kits, Dunbar, Point Grey. great places close to the beach and UBC

West end yaletown coal harbour = overrated no parking over priced

West Van North Van great if you work and live there but sucks if you have to go over the bridges.

Stay away from East Van and anywhere east of Arbutus. Surrey, New West.
