Yes, it really annoys the hell out of me, to be honest.
I see a lot of answers where the entire answer consists of complaints about spelling and grammar, and they don't even respond to the actual question.
I learned a long time ago that people who post on this site include English speakers from other countries (I saw someone slammed recently for spelling "realize" with an "s", and I got so mad I corrected the slammer because that is the correct spelling of that word in the UK), as well as people who are just learning English. I hate that some people are only interested in going around correcting grammar and spelling, rather than trying to answer an honest question that may have grammatical or spelling mistakes in it.
I have excellent English skills, because that's what I studied in college, and I have done a lot of editing and proofing for people. And you know what? I still make mistakes. We are all human! If I ignored every single person who makes a mistake, either in written communication or oral communication, I would have a pretty boring life. I just ignore the mechanics, and focus on the content. I don't know how people can get anything done in this world if they act otherwise.
So ignore the nitpickers--they clearly have nothing else to do with their lives but pick apart other people for their own pleasure.

Interesting that you bring up the words lieing/lying.
I recently was writing a note stating that the person was not telling the truth. I originally spelled it "lieing", looked at it some & decided it didn't look right & used the Merriam-Websters on line dictionary. This is what is says for "lieing" -
The word you've entered isn't in the dictionary. Click on a spelling suggestion below or try again using the search box to the right.
Suggestions for lieing:
1. liang
2. lying
3. 'lling
4. Liaoyang
5. Ling
6. lowing
7. Laing
8. laying
9. living
10. lingo
11. liming
12. linga
13. lining
14. liting
Being a former Canadian & current American, I was stumped & torn. I decided to go with "lying".
Oh well, I'll have another beer now.

I have over the years developed a bad habit of saying "me and ..." instead of "...and I" I know what correct grammar is. ( I am American) My former husband was always correcting me, and then for a year or so I was seeing a guy who did this constantly, even interrupting me in front of other people, one day after hinting around, I was saying "do you want to go to the store with Brenda and me" to which he quickly replied "and I" I informed the smug commenter that not only did I know correct grammar, but if he was going to constantly correct me he had better 1. Learn it him self, 2. realize I didn't care anyway, 3. And look up all the words I have omitted from my vocabulary because he didn't know what they meant, and not to but heads with me because my I.Q. doubled his so I didn't feel the need to correct every little thing people said, Did I mention Ex-husband, and former Man I was seeing.

I agree & disagree. A slip-up here and there is one thing, but it does drive me bonkers when I try to read a question or answer where every other word is some funky abbreviation. It may be faster for the person typing, but takes me 10 times as long to decipher what they're trying to say!

Well then lets just do away with all spelling and grammar, rules of language and appropriate ways to communicate. *90w)$di*?@)0uwojda doesn't mean a whole lot to you does it? What it means is that you are arrogant, selfish, uneducated (regardless of your spelling scores in the first grades ), and narcissistic. But you only know that NOW because I explained to you in plain English - do you get this or are you just going to go on being &^#nk7d>n@daslhg""48r?

I suppose as long as you're getting your point across, spelling doesn't matter. However, when you're filling out an application, writing an official letter or a book, I'm sure spelling becomes an issue.

This is not an area to rant, *****, and insult people. It's a forum for asking honest questions to get answers. Obviously you're being rhetorical, so why don't you become a motivational speaker and try not to make the Internet a filthier place?

I agree wholeheartedly. This is supposed to be a site where you can receive honest, informative answers, not be criticized for every minor mistake.
