Bullying is no more of a problem in this society as any society and it's always been a problem. The difference now is nobody used to care about it until kids started bringing knives and guns to school. Now it's a national crisis because the stakes are higher these days and everyone gets freaked about it everytime they see it in the news and wonder what wen't wrong.

In every school the weakest kid is always going to be picked on. It's a fact of life. For whatever reason, there's always that one kid that nobody respects and gets the raw end of the stick. How do you fix it? Parents and teachers should get that kid involved in a something positive. Teach them there are choices in life and they have control over their own path. Sports, clubs, group activities anything that nurtures self-confidence and raises self-esteem so mentally they feel there is nothng to be afraid of and they can stick up for themselves when confronted will help. Bullying is not just physical intimidation but psychological as well. If you take away the psychological edge, then suddenly the bully isn't so tough... That kid will also have the confidence to socialize more and find friends that will stand by in his/her defense.

The kids doing the bullying are doing it because they too are lacking self respect and somehow feel they have to prove they are better than everyone else in order to gain respect. Our society is one that rewards competition and hard work. Every kid should strive for that and try to achieve success. Whether they are the perpetrator or the victim, the key is getting that kid to feel respected and channel that rage into something positive.
