I recently had problems with my B&S lawn mower engine where it would only run on full choke. I decided to put a carb kit in and now I cannot keep the engine running. To start the motor, I pour a small amount of gasoline in the carb. It runs until this runs out and then dies. I thought it was the fuel pump, but I have double checked the re-build on this and everything is correct. There is also gas up to the fuel pump. I believe this fuel pump runs off the crankcase vacuum, but I do not know how to test this. Any suggestions?? My grass is now 9" tall. Thanks for any advice.

I had removed the carborator, soaked it in cleaner overnight, cleaned every part, blew with high pressure air. When opened diaphragm pump to check for problems, saw no signs of gas ever going through the pump.

Your problem mostly sounds like a plugged up carb..... which you never said you cleaned.... just put a kit in. (tear it apart, soak it in carb cleaner and blow it out through all holes with compressed air)

As for the fuel pump..... yes engine vacuume... 18 hp apposed? If its pulling gas, the pump is working...... it just sounds like plugged up jets right now.

Ok, sounds like the pump isn't working......., theres a tube there of course..... if its not sucking air, then you do need to rebuild the pump...

Did you flush the fuel system of water?

Disconnect the hose to the carburator and put the hose end into a two liter bottle, and crank the engine until the fuel comes out clean.

You may have to drain the carburator again.

If your fuel line is old, you may have gotten debris into the carburator needle valve and jet plugging it.

try running it with the choke pulled out a little bit. regulate the throttle with the choke, i had briggs motor like you ic 20 hp had the same problem. to get it started i just gave it a shot of startin g fluid. spry it in the air cleaner. just a little whif. also check on the motor where your throtle cable meets the engine housing. on the end of cable the out side of cable might be moving where its clamped on the housing. just stand next to the tractor and pull throtle lever and watch if your cable housing is moving. i shouldnt move . well good luck

If the ignition coil isn't the concern than you just about might desire to lean in the direction of gas. Does that engine have a gas close off solenoid on the backside of the carburetor? according to threat you will possibly desire to verify it truly is operation while warm. If it does not open the engine won't run. Coils have a tendency to fail while warm and artwork while cooled down making them no longer uncomplicated to diagnose. basically a concept.
