25,000 to 35,000 miles per hour is the current speed of space craft.

35 years is to short a span, but the most that could happen is maybe double.

A trip to Mars is expected to take 45 to 90 days best time one way and there would be no return for over 18 months unless your stay was very short and you went with a travel time closer to 110 days each way and maybe 10 or 20 days stay.

That would be the better part of a year in space for humans to go round trip for a two week vaction on Mars.

Understand the risks at 60 MPH a small rock hitting your windshield could shatter it and even enter the car.

Now imagine a pebble hitting a 1/8" metal hull at 35,000 MPH.

Hi. The fastest was the Apollo series of spacecraft upon re-entry. About 25,000 MPH. I agree with Alex about ion drives, but they are not the only engines being looked at. Other technology may give us higher thrust which would reduce acceleration times. Speed depends on thrust and the time the thrust is applied. If you can find the book "Tau Zero" by Anderson it's a great read on possible future space travel.

The space shuttle now travels as 17,000 mph. In 35 years the speed of a space craft will depend on the type of propellant used (antimatter, hydrogen, etc.)

Ion drive technology has the ability to bring ships to an incredible speed but currently need an incredible amount of time to do so.

I don't know but humans will never leave this solar system until
we acheive some method to exceed the speed of light...
