Hi everyone! I currently have a BS in Comunication with a concentration in broadcasting. I was very good at it, but I don't want to be a news hound. I am sort of torn on what to do now. I considered going for a Master's degree in PR, but I really dislike the idea of shmoozing with people. I also thought about going back for another Bachelor's in accounting just because there is always a demand for them. Every personality and aptitude test I take says I am good at writing, art, helping people. I agree with these results. Any ideas as to what I can do at this stage of the game? I'm 25, so I'm realitively young and can start over. Thanks! If you yourself are in any of the careers you mention, what do you like or dislike? Feel free to vent!

There is much that you can do with your degree, and obvious skills for communication. You are asking good questions that should result in your being very particular about finding a job that does more than pays the bills. It sounds as if something that allows you to make a difference and be a creative communicator is essential... IF that is true, have you thought about other options that the communication degree might be useful in such as Organizational Development (would require some HR skills too).
I work in IT as a Change Advocate, that is a very rewarding field.. However like yourself, I found it necessary to break out of the corporate politics to be a bit more direct in my creativity and ability to help others! That is the passion for me, it just took me a while to learn it. Now I am taking my passion to help others.

Your degree, regardless of a major, will be of help to you in whatever field you choose. Education is a great thing so going for that Masters is also going to benefit you more than hurt you, again, regardless what field of study you choose. Why not take a break from school for a while to help you determine exactly what the next path would be by applying your degree to something that you would like to try. Why not consider working in a library? You will get familiar with the writing, the art and the helping people. Maybe you'll like that enough for go for a Masters in Library Science??? You are right... you are young and obviously intelligent. With another 40+ years of work ahead of you, do what you want to do and what you enjoy. Your communications degree is key ... choose whatever door you wish to open!

Go full time with my company for 2 years, and build up a monthly residue income of $10,000.00 per month. Then become a writer, and sit back on the beach. And write a movie, screenplay,or a new TV show.Maybe write a book.Careers are necessary,to make a living, but then you wake up,20yrs. older and deeper in debt.Accounting is very stressful, and I have seen alot of disgruntled accountants who were tired of being couped up in a office everyday.Freedom comes from a residue income.I am for real, with your communication skills, you could do well with this company. We are expanding all over the globe. We are on track to be a 1billion dollars in sales by 2010.check out my web-site and learn about this product, and then IM me or e-mail.Info is on my page. This is what I do,and I really like the freedom.

Getting another BA is useless. That's like taking two steps backward and in four years, who knows what the demand for accountants is going to be (plus, you'll be 30 trying to get an entry level job meant for a 22 year old). You need to put your first degree to use or go to grad school and move forward.

I would recommend working in radio. Radio is on the verge of a major revival with the advent of satellite radio. Also, many of the established radio personalities are reaching retirement age. You could work as a script writer or even as an on-air personality. It’s worth investigating.

Atom,
Since you are considering going for another BA, consider going for your MBA. You don't need a business background to do it.
