Take the VIN number to the DMV and report it as a abandoned car,then have them do a title search. And file for a lost title forum.

you can take the serial numbers from it,,and see if the dmv Will do a title search on it,,they have to notify the original owner of the car before they can do anything with it,,even if it was abandoned,,if he ,,or she don't want it anymore,,you may have to pay,,any money,,for fines or storage,,on it,,just to get it,,id See what it was going to cost me before i made any decisions on it,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.

Obtain salvage title, but no one will give you title for a car that has been junked.

You may have to re-establish the drivability and/or the chain of command.
