The Read the Bills Act, proposed by DownsizeDC.org, would A) force the politicians to read or listen to entire bills before passing them, would B) make government post the bills online so that citizens, news programmes, bloggers, etc. can read them, and would C) make the politicians wait seven days before voting on bills to give the public and media time to digest the potential impact of laws.

So why would ANY politician not endorse it??

Is it simply because they don't think they should be Responsible to know the content of the laws THEY pass?

Is it because they know they wouldn't be able to sneak their pork-projects into bills any longer?

Is it because they know that if the Read the Bills Act were ever to be voted on, that any politician who would vote against it would probably lose his/her next election? And that thus the law would have to pass, and they, the politicians, would now be forced to take responsibility for the laws they pass?

Or do they just hate America?

Congress as a whole long ago become more interested in keeping their jobs than doing their jobs. And any for m of public oversight would only serve to make them do more work or put their 98% incumbency rate at risk.

How could anyone argue that the bill, aside from a 7 day waiting period, is anything other than good common sense in the form of law? Maybe the 7 day thing should be adjusted for emergency situations like disaster relief or war. ???

I'm sorry to say this is the first I've heard of this.

The Rad the Bills Act sounds subversive.

How are our leaders supposed to feather their own nests and control trillions of dollars in spending (you just know some crumbs fall of that cake!) currying political favor with their cronies at our expense?

Preposterous! This Act would require intelligent, honest people of integrity in government. What would the late night talk show hosts poke fun at if we had people in government like that?

Simple, and self-evident- because none of them read the bill.
