This can not be answered in general. You need to pick a field and then compare. For example, in architecture, the American system may be better. At high school level, the Indian system may be more competitive in general.

As several others have said, it depends on how you count.

If you use literacy of people over 15 as a measure, US is much higher than India for males, for females, and for the total population.

And how many Indian students come here for college, and how many US students go to India?
