Our TV stations keep an eye on those things LOL The latest projected path has Ernesto heading that way. But you never know . We are very aware of any storm . But have they even told the rest of you where they think it is going? We are watching 5 or 6 different models on projected courses. 3 of which take straight at N. O.

Bush seems to be a very powerful guy. I see a lot of questions on Yahoo Answers that attribute him with doing a lot of things. He has personally caused the loss of jobs, the loss of planetary status for Pluto, Hurricane Katrina, terrorism, the economy, Hitler (well that was his grandfather), squandering American resources, and all the evils in the America and the whole world. I didn't know a president had so much power. Especially over things like nature. As for the rest of it, isn't the president just a tiny little cog in the wheel of government? Doesn't he actually have very little power? All he can do is veto a bill he doesn't like and Bush has only done that once. Every other law etc has to be signed by Congress. He can give executive orders but those aren't the same as laws and he has very little power behind those orders. Bush is in the public eye and he introduces legislation all the time but President isn't King and he answers to Congress. If they don't like something, it doesn't happen. I wish people would realize that no president has the kind of power that is being attributed to Bush.

To take your question literally, no. President Bush does not have the power to control where a hurricane hits, nor do I or anybody else have the power to predict what Ray Nagin will do. I am only guessing, of course, but I will put myself out on a limb and predict that everybody concerned will have learned some lessons, and therefore will do better the next time around.

There are no Fing excesses now on not having back up now with food and water. Of course everyone is worried about the levees. Even if Nagin didn't order evacuation some people were smart enough to evacuate. I sure as hell did. My parents had to move out of the house that they lived in for 25yrs in MS and they moved to Mobile, AL and they are going to evacuate this time without any kind of telling of mandatory evacuation.

I am not an advocate for Bush, but he held up state's rights and left it up to the Governor of Louisiana like he should have. She didnt call in the Fed's help soon enough. And how could you blame a person for a hurricane hitting? Personally, I dont need someone to tell me to get out of the way of a Cat. 5 hurricane.

N.O.L.A. will dodge this one although Mobile and Pensacola may not.
The truth is we are not prepared for major disasters. Living along the coast is risky. It was common knowledge that one day N.O. would get the big one. People on the
Gulf Coast have destroyed the barrier islands for the sake of tourism and growth without concern for the environmental impact. Some of that responsibility falls on the government and George W. along with many others bare the burden of being blamed. that is the nature of being in the public eye.

Well, YA CAN'T DO MUCH ABOUT A HURRICANE. If it comes it comes.
As for the response We'll just have to see how bad FEMA or whoever has taken over for them reacts, and we'll get the usual show-of-sympathy from the President and then they'll just ignore New Orleans.
Actually, just today I saw something in the paper about how the federal government still hasn't given New Orleans billions of dollars. Let's see here:
"Out of the $25 to 27 billion promised by the government to help rebuild Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, only $117 million has been collected by New Orleans to start repair work.
Lousiana's promised federal aid after Katrina:
8.1 billion for repairs or buyouts of significantly damaged homes...
6 to 8 billion for repair of public buildings and other structures...
6 billion in levee repair...
3.5 billion in projects to prevent future damage...
697 million for highway funding (I'm assuming that's repairs)...
550 million for the replacement of Veterans Affairs hospital and...
200 million for the Nation Guard's Jackson Barracks repair." -"New Orleans Still Waiting for Billions in Federal Aid" by Michelle Roberts, AP.
But if Ernesto hits New Orleans you can expect a slightly better reaction, but not much I think. Just from Katrina people will be out of their homes for years to come and if this one hit they'll probably never come back.
I also have personal experience in the area as I went down to the Florida Keys with the Boy Scouts. On our way down there were several residential parks, trailer parks or places of the same sort, even multi-family houses that were bored up and had messages written on them like "Back in a million years" or "Out to lunch in China, be back never". It was rather said to see so much damage and to actually see what people saw the day they came back to find that everything was gone. If this new system hits the entire New Orleans are will have about half the population it did before Katrina in 2010. But now it may be on the way to unihabited.

No, i think of God has his hand in this and is attempting to make a factor. God works in mysterious procedures and curiously while Stuart Shepard of concentration on the kinfolk prayed for rain in the time of Obama's acceptance Speech, God had diverse plans. And now God is outwardly sending Gustav to the Gulf to remind u . s . of america concerning to the Republican's failure to handle Katrina. He additionally curiously had Republicans pick Minnesota for his or her convention to remind u . s . of america concerning to the bridge fall down and the Republican's failure to handle the infrastructure subjects that have been positioned on carry considering all of the money has been going to Iraq and the contractors there. and ultimately, in what shows Gods truly wacky humorousness, he has the Republican's flying in the process the comparable airport the place Larry Craig had his unlucky bathing room incident. we are to no longer question why, basically believe he has a plan.

Good point. I guess folks think Bush is God and that is why he ordered Katrina to hit New Orleans. I personally don't see why people build in flood planes on the coast.
