without a doubt yes. but instead (it may saved you some money too) you could always get an external cd drive. THey usually cost less that internals, can be removed as you please, you dont have to pay installation fees, and if you ever want to sell/ take it out or anything like thta you dont have to get it unistalled, you simply disconnect it.

If it needs it. Check your laptop manufacturer's website. Of course, if you have a DELL, make sure that you DO that battery recall thing, before it catches fire.
Generally, when you use the Windows Update thing, it tells you if you need new hardware drivers, and provides those.
If you are having trouble reading CDs, it's probably gotten dirty. If you have access to the tiny lense, then clean that. Otherwise, you might have to get a CD Cleaner thing.

Yeah. There are 2 options I know of.
A: Check your computer maker's website for software and firm updates. This will allow you to get a better job out of your CD drive.
B: Install a new one. Be sure to not mess up the computer, and hope it doesn't look to ugly. This is the best option if you know what you are doing, especially with the DVD's they are inventing these days.
