Never came up. Poop happens. Having a baby is a messy business.
Actually, if you poop a bit when you are pushing, you know you are pushing effectively.
There are much more important things to worry about. If you want one, ask for it. If you don't, refuse it. End of the story.

The trick: if you think you are in labor (or are set to be induced) then you should stop eating. Digestion interferes with delivery and can slow down labor (making more likely you will need a c-section) because your body cannot concentrate on more than one thing at a time. I didn't need an enema (nor did I want one) because I was set to be induced at 3 am so I stopped eating around 8(the time was a suggestion from my doctor)...but you'll probably have a bowel movement during delivery anyways. Ask your doctor what his/her policy is on the enema...some doctors do it and some don't.

Just because a doctor ordered it, doesn't mean you have to agree to it. You as a patient have a right to refuse any procedure by making an informed decision.
As nurse, I know most women embarrass easily and want to have a clean colon so that when the baby progresses down the birth canal, the baby is the only thing that is expelled. But by no means is it necessary. Also if you rip or tear, you are less likely to develop an infection if you don't have anything like that around the wound.

I had natural childbirth with my 4 babies, so I had the enema so that I wouldn't have that as an obstacle. My last baby was crowning while I was on the facility. I had to pull the emergency cord for the nurses to help me to the delivery room. She was born within 5 minutes!!!

i was induced... so i tried to make sure the pipes were clean before i went to the hospital lol - i heard stories of women poo-ing while deliverig their child because they couldn't help it. an enema was never something that was discussed between my doctor and i or the nurses. i don't think they do those too often anymore. i've heard a lot of bad things about having to get one before delivery.

I was never offered one, but I would ask to see what their policy is about getting one in early labor.

Wasn't even offered one. Don't know if I had a choice, but if I did, I would have had to voluntarily ask for one.
