You can use shredded newspaper in your compost pile.

Use as padding when you mail stuff.

Use wet to contain plant roots whenever you dig them up and have to hold them over for a little while before transplanting.

Packing material. So, go buy a bunch of junk to ship and sell it on ebay... use the shredded paper to pack it... voila it's someone else's problem. ;)

You can also put some in your compost, not sure what good it would do plants, but if you're just looking for a frost barrier it might work.

Something you ought to know is that pressure-sensitive carbonless copy paper has chemicals that are sufficiently carcinogenic that you would not want to use the paper for anything related to food, pets, fruits, or vegetables. Probably the best you can do with the paper is find a recycling centre that accepts office paper waste.

When my dog had puppies we used shredded paper in the puppy pen. Pet shops and animal shelters probably wouldn't refuse a donation of shredded paper.

You have lots of good options here! I make handmade paper from mine and sell it to scrapbookers. Once you boil the shreds down and make a pulp, I add natual dyes, pieces of leaves, moss, etc.... Makes for very interesting paper.
