As long as it looks preppy...preppy look is a very good look for the first day of school, sort of the Yale/flirty girl look.

if you have a uniform and you are thinking of sewing the uniform then I would suggest you should wait to see if anybody else in the school does the same thing. e.g. if you go to a private school and they are really strict then you might not want to do that in case you get labelled as a rebel or "too revealing" according to the stricter teachers.
if you don't have a uniform then it depends if you want to get noticed or not. you could get a lot of attention from the guys (e.g. them looking up at ur bum), but this may not be the right attention you want to get.
you also might want to consider looking at what everybody else is wearing. if this is a new school then try waiting until the second day, just to see what type of school it is. it would be a good idea, if possible, to wear jeans and bring a skirt just in case if you are trying to break into the "in" crowd and everybody in the "in" crowd is wearing a mini and they look down at you.
also if it might be slightly big on you then everybody will see your undies and it will fall down a lot. i did tht once and regretted it. it was in winter lol.
if its winter i would wear a striped/spotted/colourful turtleneck or glittery top with tight skinny jeans tucked into leather/non leather boots. possibly a necklace over the turtleneck.
if you are a larger person then i don't think it would be a good look to wear a mini skirt, but it all depends on the crowd you are hanging out with. for exampe a girl I know in year nine wears mini skirts whenever there is a non-uniform day at my school and everybody is nice abt it but nobody i know thinks its a good look. its all up to you, but i would wait until the second day.

Sure! As long as ur not over 150 pounds sorry but it just looks bad when ur that big in a mini skirt....but anyway yea a mini skirt would b great for the big first day!

no, it is not a good idea for you to wear a mini-skirt first day of school. because you will attract all the wrong attention; girls and guys'll both think that you are a huge wh*re

I think you should wait till the first friday because then you can say your going somewhere awesome after school if anyone asks and it wont look like your trying to hard on your first day back.

Well, it's still basically summer, so it'd be fine to wear a mini. Pair it with a cute polo and flip flops and you'll be good.
