If you are talking about trusting the abuser, you cannot take that chance.

If you are talking about trusting another person after suffering the abuse, it will be difficult. And you will need counseling to understand what made you take the previous abuse, and what steps to take to become a more trusting person. It won't be fun, and it won't be quick. Allow yourself time to heal, dear one.

It's really hard to trust a person after being in that type of relationship. It just takes time. I was raped at the age of 18 by my boyfriend at the time, forced to marry him because I became pregnant, and lived in that frightened place for 3 years before escaping from it. Then I just wound up in another relationship that was abusive, but not physically only verbally, for 9 more after that. I gained weight and hated myself for a long time. I finally became free when I made friends at a new job and turned into a stronger, self confident woman. I ditched the abusive men and took up with a man that made me feel wonderful and protected. It took a long time, but now I know I'm worth the extra effort it takes to win my trust.

Well, first you have to forgive yourself. Mainly when a woman is in an abusive relationship, she's mad at herself for not getting away sooner and mad for letting it happen (although it isn't your fault).
Second, you have to learn to trust again. Learning to trust is very hard to do. You are emotionally scarred from the pain that another man put you through and you have every right to be afraid that it could happen again.
I would suggest counseling. A professional could help you build that trust up for people again during sessions. It would make you feel a lot better!

I assume you mean... how do you trust your new boyfriend after being in an abusive relationship for the past 11 years. You must have learned something to finally realize you were strong enough to leave. Trust your new boyfriend completely until he makes one abusive move.. then kick him to the curb.. there are no second chances for him.

I do hope you mean that your having difficulty trusting someone new because you were previously in an abusive relationship with someone else If this is the case....it is just going to take some time and some patience. It does get easier as time goes by.

Just because they're violent and abusive doesn't mean they can't be trusted. You should trust them, mind, body and spirit. Trust is most important in a relationship. Not a silly temper.

Take a BREAK from relationships -- get comfortable in the skin of being an independent single who CARES for your own self and your body -- and learn to like it.

this is BEFORE you ever start thinking about even trying to get into another relationship. YOU need to learn once again that violent relationships are NOT normal, they are NOT acceptable and NO ONE deserves to be abused -- ever.

I assuming that your asking about some else, not the abuser. I would say take your time, you have to learn first how to feel good about yourself first, take time to heal the wounds fro the abusive relationship....And if you going to open your doors to a new person, that is OK. But have always present that you deserve to be happy and nobody have the right to abuse you.

Are you talking about trusting the abuser? I don't think that's a good idea.

Or are you talking about trusting someone else? It takes time. Make sure the new person understands why you have trouble with trust and be patient.

You take your time and get to know the person...and be sure you know everything about them...Not everyone is going to be abusive but you have got to learn to trust again and that could take some time
