Assault on Iraq March 20, 2003
George W Bush was convinced by those around him that invading Iraq and getting rid of Saddam Husein would be good for the US and good for Bush's legacy.
Neocons including Rumsfeld, Cheney, Addington, Feith, Wolfowitz, Rove and Libby as well as others determined to proceed in this adventure and began meeting as the "Iraq Group." Neocons in general have been unhappy for some time with the US foreign policy preferring a stronger defense department and bigger military and more aggressive international policies. Their thinking that a democracy in the mid-east would be good for the US was not a mistake but their methods and assumptions were. They hunted for "out sourced" intelligence that would fit their agenda and dressed it up as legitimate to present to Congress, to the State Department, and to the people. They hunted high and low for a winning strategy but not a war strategy but a sales strategy to sell to the citizens of the US and those in the Congress -- WMDs and nuclear weapons pointed at us. They leaked information to people like Judith Miller who wrote pro administration articles -- not factual articles. And they leaked the name of CIA agent to undercut the credibility of her husband who was a policy critic. They hid information from voters until after the election and they threaten reporters will jail for exposing malfeasance.
Just as Bush wanted to be president but had no interest in actually governing, he wanted to win a war but without the hard work of war preparations -- budgeting for the war and imposing war taxes and following military advice of sending in overwhelming force to win. Bush with no military experience of his own from which to draw, didn't listen to sage advice of his father but listened to those whose advice pleased him most and was the most optimistic.
Thus we are spending TWO BILLION DOLLARS per week in Iraq with no end in sight. Without established goals, changing rationale, and ever changing benchmarks. And -- of course -- the expenditures can't be audited.
There will be plenty of conservatives out there who think that those billions down a rabbit hole in Iraq is necessary, that the money is actually keeping us safe, that we had no other choice and that Bush is the best darn president we ever had! Go figure.

In case you have forgotten, 9/11 changed many things. The war in Iraq (as intended) has brought much of the terrorists there to fight their jihad. It also is next to Iran and guess who is on the other side of Iran. There has been some very beneficial results in other countries eg: Libya, Saudi Arabia as well as a few others. Would advise you to look at a bigger picture and see what is actually going on in the world.. The jihad is world wide right now and there are a percentage of the 1 billion muslums who are intent on wiping us off the face of the earth. Would suggest you look up the word SHARIA on line and get an idea of what we are facing.

I hate to say this but this war HAD to have started sometime. The militant Muslims are hell bent on taking over the world. Another country which is NOT in the news is Span. The Muslims are determined to take over Spain in order to REVIVE the old Muslim empire and that is why the Muslims have infiltrated most of the European Countries, England(which has serious problems, France, Germany and have many cells here in the U.S. It is a very very serious problems that I am positive the the people are not aware of. Now with the Iranian president striving to move up the timetable for a Muslim takeover, it is extremely serious. I am really scared as to what is happening. I have spent 30 years overseas and I know the coming and goings of the governments and particularly that of the Arab world.

You could pick the starting point from a number of events: embassy bombings, USS Cole bombing, World Trade Center #1, World Trade Centers#2 ...
It took until GWB to put his foot down and try to stop any further attacks. And there will be other attacks, or at least attempts, by the terrorists. They feel that anyone not Muslim should die.

If you are talking about Iraq, we could say that finally someone has admitted that it has become, through our stupidity, a civil war, which is far worse than a regular war.
No disrespect meant to our wonderful service men but the politicians really messed up this time. Thanks a lot, guys.

My guess.... Nov. 1979... It just took this long for some to have the courage to react to it. We are having this war because a bunch of dumbasses want us to bow down to Mecca 5 times a day... or die.

i do no longer think of Iran must be allowed to strengthen nukes. i think of this President lacks the talents to thwart them. All he's responsive to the thank you to do is threaten, coerce, and bomb lower back to the stone age. regrettably, he has a militia of arm-chair generals who think of that's in basic terms some worldwide carrying experience and we are #a million! u . s . each and each of how! is what they chant, blog, and drivel. i do no longer think of threatening WW3 is a to blame element to do if the threat of terroist assaults on those shorelines is authentic. If GWB have been a authentic Texan, he would understand that Davy Crockett reported "First, make certain you're suited, then, flow forward." He has been incorrect approximately in basic terms approximately each and every thing, the excuse of "i presumed it became into suited, they informed me it became into." is BS, although surpassed off to Truman's little table plaque that examine The dollar Stops right here? Bush probable concept that meant he and his cronies get each and all the conflict plunder and booty.
