2 things: ettiquette dictates that there is nothing inherently festive about the ring, so a small gesture or ift in addition is a good idea. 2) any engagement ring given in such a manner (coiciding with an occasion) is legally a gift, and hence, you shan't get it back if your engagement goes pear shaped.

Only. There are no set rules on what to give as a gift. My personal opinion is that Christmas is a horrible time for an engagement. Do it some other time of the year.

I do think it should be 2 seperate occasions. Your engagement should have it's own special day. I would have to say no.

Now if he spent a lot of money on the ring and that is all he could afford, he should explain that to you at Christmas time and perhaps get you a card and an inexpensive gift.

But if he could afford both then he should get both the ring and a nice Christmas gift. I think that would be fair.

No!! The 2 occasions should be left separate!! Never a good idea to combine a personal day like getting engaged, on the same day as a national or religious holiday!!! Remembrances of the day should only be of your engagement, not the engagement and how bad the green candy canes tasted!!! Give your engagement it's OWN special day!!

I think Christmas is a great time to become engaged. But you should also give a Christmas present as well - or else they might think that you are just trying to save money!

Are you ready to get married? Marriage is a big step. Present are things that makes you happy. If the engagement ring makes you happy then go get it.

I believe that the engagment ring is the most precious present that you can receive from your boyfriend and then you'll be able to call him fiance instead.

My sister-in-law was engaged that way. It was a surprise. Of course the guy treated her out to dinner later and gave her another gift.
