I live in Buffalo so Niagara Falls is only 20 minutes away. The other answers are right about Canada being better. Be sure you have your passport or a drivers license at the border.
Cave of the Winds is neat, you can walk behind the falls. Maid of the Mist is a boat ride that takes you to the falls--at the bottom. They provide raincoats for both experiences.
There is a Marine Land in Canada near the falls--complete with Killer Whales, etc. Helicopter rides over the falls. There are lots of cheesy but fun tourist things on both sides, but way more in Canada--things like Wax museums, Ripleys, etc.
There is a beautiful Butterfly conservatory in Canada, Casino's on both sides. There is a rapid jet boat that is supposed to be very thrilling. A cable car across the gorge. There's ArtPark in Lewiston on the US side, a cultural venue.
There is a rotating tower restaurant on the Canadian side called the Skylon Tower.
If you travel down the Canadian side you can reach Niagara on The Lake, a beautiful little town. Great winerys along the way and lots of amazing Theatre in town---very quaint.
There is a few Forts around from the Revolution and/or the War of 1812. Lots of history in the area.
You could hop on a train in Niagara Falls Canada and be in Toronto in less than 2 hours--an amazing city!
The weather is supposed to be great for the next several days, mid to high seventies. Enjoy your trip!

Don't waste your money on the "Journey under the falls" -- all you see is water pouring over rocks; it's a complete ripoff (like almost everything in Niagara Falls). The Maid of the Mist ride is good though. Also, there's an awesome live butterfly museum just north of Niagara Falls.

Take a Camera or a Video Camera - its a must. And try out those binoculars that are at one point of the walk-way, its really cool to look out at the rushing water. There's a small area that gets really soaked up by the mist from the falls, if its hot weather{depending on when ur going} then thats a good chillout-spot. The recreation centre is really good, try sneaking into USA accross the bridge! HAVE FUN!!!

i live in NIagara Falls......of course the Falls themselves are a great draw....but on the Canadian side you can see the falls better....so cross the bridge to get a great view of them...the wait on the border is a bit long on week-ends, but during the week it isn't so bad. Make sure you bring your birth certificate to get into Canada and back to the States. On the Canadian side there is the Skylon tower.....goes way up in the air and the view is awesome......there is alot to do inside the tower too....on the American side you can take the Cave of the Winds tour...you get to go behind the falls. Also, the Maid of the Mist takes you into the falls (boat ride)....really wet and very neat! There is an aquarium there too.....there is enough to keep you busy. Helicopter rides over the falls. Trolley cars over the falls (Canadian side). Outlet Malls.......very fun place to go......Native American Museum.....see authentic dances etc........bring lots of money though....can be expensive......Have Fun! See you at the Falls!

Enjoy the falls, more than the amusement centers, even when you get drenched, spread your arms wide & taste the water over the viewing deck. Take a picnic by the side gardens. Allot more time gazing & being overwhelmed by the POWERFUL sight of voluminous rushing water that meets the sky, almost 180 degrees. Take lots of photos (disposable waterproof camera if you'll go near the water) & take the ferry boat under the falls. EnJOY!
