If paint thinner took most of it off then it's probably oil base paint. I f so try lacquer thinner it should remove the rest. Just allow to soak and remove with fine steel wool. To refinish go to Home Depot or Lowe's they sell kits to re-glaze tubs and sinks for about $50. best applied with mohair mini roller 4in.

Your bathtub may have been refinished either by the homeowner or
professionally. The most effective solution is to have it stripped and refinished professionally again, this is not a do-it-yourself installation. There are strong chemicals involved, specifically ethylene chloride paint
remover, is the only thing that will remove epoxy paint, (most likely that's
what is on the tub now),the room must be well ventilated and it takes about
one to two hours to remove all the coatings on the tub surface.
Not a pleasant job to do, but extremely important.

If it's porcelain or enamel, then paint remover won't harm it. If it's acrylic, then a new bath tub is probably best.

Just apply paint remover, let it sit until the paint bubbles, then wipe it with a rag and white spirit until it's all gone. You may need more than one application of paint remover.

go to a paint or hardware store and ask for paint to cover it up with. It will look better and restore the shinyness!
