You're kidding right? Vans? Ew. Those went OUT a long time ago!
I got 4 pairs of shoes, I just couldn't make up my mind really. I got DC's, Etnies, Nike Shox (PE) and Adidas Superstar.
Vans maybe a classic, but sometimes classics go obsolete. If you can only get one of the above brands, I would go with Etnies. They have more styles (i.e. lo-cut, callicut -personal fav ♥, flip flops, etc.) And lots of colors, color variants and patterns.
DC's are just as good, but with less options.
Take the tips from a sponsered skater chick...
1) NEVER get Vans, they wear easily, lasting only 2-6 months, and too popular
2) Choose something attractive, yet promising in you having the only pair at your school/function
3)Choose something that reflects your personality. Style, cut, Brand, color, etc.

You should get Vans! I personally don't like skater shoes, I think they look kinda geeky but some of them are nice.....anyway my moms friend daughter got some and they were cute. by the way they got it from Vans and it lasted a long time...

Vans.
They're the best.
I have some that are a year old, and they're still comfortable. They haven't fallen apart, and they still fit.

i exclusively buy vans! they are very flat though so get some gel insoles and you're good to go.
