Has anybody ever been in or seen a tornado up close?

I was in a tornado in Nashville, Tennessee in early May 1999. My daughter, her 8 month old daughter , a friend, and I were coming home and when we reached north Nashville on I-65 South about 8:45pm, all traffic stopped and I could see a huge band of rain circling between the back of a semi and the front of our car. Suddenly the car lifted off the ground several feet, shuddered for a few seconds and then dropped back on the interstate. It was a terrifying moment!

Thank you for spelling "tornadoes" correctly. When I was really young, a tornado passed right down the street in front of my apartment. I never got to see it because of the style of glass, kind of like a rippled surface.
