The old way way to put the water in a large container for 3 days so that the chlorine will evaporate out. The problem is that your water may be treated with chloramine in which the method mentioned will not work so try campden tablets (one per ten gallons). Some faucet filters work well. Some people use carbon filters. I use a distiller I bought from Ebay for 80 bucks that works very well. Good luck

here are two ways to dechlorinate water. The first is to age the tap water by letting it sit in an open container for at least 24 hours. Chlorine dissolved in the water escapes into the air. Or add dechlorinating chemicals (included in the kit) to tap water. In some water systems, chloramine, a newer additive, is used in place of chlorine, and it will not leave the water when exposed to air. You must use water conditioners that specifically say they remove chloramine. It might be beneficial to ask at your local pet store or aquarium store just what is recommended in your area to make the water safe for fish. Set aside a pitcher of water to age, so that you will have it ready to maintain the water level of the aquarium. Keep your aquarium covered to reduce evaporation and to keep dust out and fish in.

You can buy a product called Chlor-Out at any pet store or WalMart. Also a product called StressCoat works well to protect the fish from any chlorine that may be left in the water. Best of luck to you!

Juts buy a tap water dechlorinator from a local pet/fish store such as Stress Coat.
In my opinion, leaving the water in an open container is too much hassel. You don't have to make it overly complicated on yourself.

They make a solution called fresh/right start that takes it out. You need to use this to condition the water for the fish.

If you use de-chlorinator, make sure the product also helps neutralize chloramines as well, since it is a chlorine by-product that is also toxic to fishes.
