Basically you can project onto a screen or wall what is showing on your Laptop or desktop computer screen. Most people use an LCD projector to show a PowerPoint presentation, but again, you can show whatever is on your computer screen.

You can also show a video through an LCD projector. Most units accept a normal video signal (an RCA connector) or an SVHS video signal, and usually have a small speaker so you can hear the audio from a video as well.

I'm totally jealous. I think our school has one, and the library has it. If your school/district has an account with United Streaming, I highly suggest checking it out. There are SO many videos you can use, and lots of them are actually really good. People have given you some good ideas on how to use them in the classroom. When I did my student teaching, I used an LCD projector to play a PowerPoint version of Jeopardy with my students.

I have had great success using the projector to display writing samples and have the class help edit the writing. This not only helps them with critical reading skills and editing skills, but also helps them learn the tools in word processing that makes writing/editing easier. I demonstrate internet searches, archival photos to liven a lesson, funny cartoons, group writing, the ideas are endless. It is a great tool.

Oh wow! I never thought I would be able to transfer from overhead to the LCD, but I will not go back unless I have technical difficulties!!! I have used it everyday this school year!! I can't imagine teaching without it anymore!

You can connect it to a computer and project the computer display on the wall. Great for showing students examples, pictures, explanations or just displaying test questions. You will want to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create simple slide to project.

Some school districts have teaching resources online for their curriculum. You can show powerpoints. These are especially good for science if your school has difficulty getting their hands on some supplies.

Nothing, put it in a box and send it to me. I'll get rid of it for you. Include the nasty cables, too.
