Yesterday I looked up homeopathic remedies for chronic heartburn (gerd) because being on medication every day is bad. It kills the good acid that digests your food! and probably thus hinders nutrient absorption.
This is what the book recommended and what I bought yesterday. They said to take Pancretin with Bromelain. I searched the vitamin aisle for over a half hour and I found a combo supplement. It even contains pepcid and papaya, two other digestive help aids.
The supplement is called Super Enzyme Caps by Twin Labs.
I am hoping that if I continue to take this natural remedy I can wean myself off of my daily prilosec.
I purchased mine in The Vitamin Shoppe.

I am also taking Nexium for acid reflux. I have been told to avoid spicy foods (things with tomato sauce--pizza, lasagna, spaghetti), chocolate, coffee. The doctor told me to eat a bland diet--vegetables like corn, peas, and green beans. Fruits would include apples, bananas, and pears. I took Prilosec OTC for one month and didn't get any relief. Nexium seems to be helping but I am still very careful what I eat--because I definitely don't want to go through the heartburn I felt several weeks ago! That salsa did me in!! Hope you feel better soon.

I was taking nexium and had to stop because it was effecting my breathing. As strange as it sounds apple cider vinegar is a good substitute. Take 1 teaspoon in a glass of water with meals and if you need extra just add a bit more to water. Since I started taking it I very rarely get any excess acid. One of the theories behind it working is that as the apple cider vinegar gets digested it breaks down into an acid that helps with digestion and therefore you're less likely to get indigestion or reflux symptoms.
Also drinking water with a slice of lemon squeezed into it can help. It's the same kind of principle but I find the apple cider vinegar works better. Good luck.

drinking soda can double or even in somecases triple the acid amount in your stomach/mouth so stop soda in addtion to the milk suggestion or if you are latose intolerant like me try orange juice as an acid reducer.

drink more water not soda and try anto acids chewables as well as milk and nothing to acidic when you eat or drink
