I just recently set up an account for Myspace and everyone I talk to seems to have a problem with it. On Yahoo Answers I see several people complaining about it. Am I missing something here, what is the deal with Myspace? Why does everyone hate it? I know it can be dangerous for kids but I am an adult and I only accept people as friends that I know.

There are two reasons MySpace is hate by a majority.
The first reason is because MySpace is now 'mainstream', some kids don't like things that get this far because that's when it annoys them.
The second reason is because MySpace normally has server problems, when these server problems arise, people get extremely impatient with the website and terminate the account because of congested traffic over one or many servers.

My criticism of MySpace is that they have a bad case of "mission creep." They started out as a social networking site and now they seemed to have expanded into some kind of megasite that is a mix of social networking, blogging, and video sharing (like youtube).
Don't get me wrong, I like MySpace and I have a profile up, but they seem to not care much about their original purpose anymore. Many sites like Facebook have stayed focused on the social networking side and have added some really innovative features (like tagging friends' names onto photos) that MySpace is lacking because MySpace was too busy putting up a comedy section.

Myspace will have maintenance problems often.
Other than that parents don't like myspace because their kids meet strange men online that will hurt them. The parents use myspace as a scapegoat for their lack of parenting.

it's an okay site, but the people you end up adding are mostly people you already know from work, or school, etc, so it's kind of pointless since most people are too afraid to add people they don't know
