Yahoo!Answers does not let you use all caps because its "rude"
yet some of the most socially offensive and racist questions appear on a regular basis here and it is hours before they are taken off

Sure I don't mind wise cracks, I do those my self but some of the stuff that gets on here, as long as it is not in all caps.... oh well...just venting I guess

Interesting answers regarding manpower and software...

however if someone were to type in the question line....NASA OR N.A.S.A for example...just out of having the caps locked...to be quite honest I don't find it all that "rude" to type in cap letters, yeah it's more of an etiquitte thing...

like I said more of a pet peeve than any thing else like not being able to type jack-*** and having to do this jack @ss or a. s.s, I mean sure there are more important issues out there but still...

I guess like Kurt sang

"oh well whatever, nevermind"

I agree. Everything else slides by but something as silly as CAPS is restricted. Good point there!

Yes of course any right thinking person would agree with you.

The problem yahoo has here is the limitation software has in detecting offensive content. While it is quite easy to detect caps it is not so easy to detect offensive content.

Why, because a lot of the words used, beside the offensive ones could be used in any legitimate and good Q&A.

If they begin to check for certain words that trigger what may be offensive and throw the whole question/answer out I think you would not like the result. So they allow you, who are offended to report that person.

They already check single words and block them but content would be very hard indeed and would no doubt block some messages they did not intend to.

I am sure they are working on this but don't expect it soon.

It is impossible to program a computer to search for inappropriate content, but easy to stop ALL CAPS. Yahoo! does not have the man-power to have a group of people sift through every question asked for inappropriate content, so it is hardly ridiculous. If you made a free Q and A system with dozens of questions asked a minute would you look at every question the moment it is asked?? Hardly.

I just learned something new. I didn't know we couldn't use all caps. Thanks for the info, and I also agree with you about your other comment. Some of the questions about religion, etc are pretty bad at times. ~

I grieved for the man who could not type in all caps, until I met a man with no keyboard.

I agree. Also, Yahoo censors a number of words but not the word "motherfuck." What the heck?
