assuming you mean:

how good is society at providing correct ethics?

not very good

it even has a wholly wrong idea of ethics

ethics is the art of maximising happiness

and its first requirement is a 100% commitment to pursuit of your happiness

society confuses this with following a set of rules written by other people -

but we have to use our own best judgement, not rely roboticly and unthinkingly on sets of rules, which may be wrong or inapplicable in particular cases

judging by how well people are pursuing their happiness - very badly, if at all - society is doing a lamentable job of providing ethics

happiness is caused by the virtues - who is pursuing the virtues of wisdom, justice, moderation?

we humans have the worst possible record for justice: pay from $1 to $1 billion [1998 dollars]for a fortnight's work - pay from a million times, to 1000th of world average hourly pay - pay from $1000 for a lifetime's work, to $1000 for a third of a second's work

justice is equal pay for equal work - it is a cause of happiness because money is very good, good for virtually all goods and services, therefore injustice [theft] in money generates greatest anger, violence, which is ever-escalating, as both sides try to win

90% of people get 10-1000th of world average hourly pay - ie, get 90-99.9% of earnings stolen

no one is saying that this is a tremendous opportunity for increase of human happiness, by reversing the giant theft

im saying it, but no one can hear it, for some mysterious reason i cant even get people to tell me

everyone just turns away from the thought of it

everyone thinks they are good - but goodness is being good at pursuit of happiness - and we are all very bad - refusing even to make the obvious connection between injustice and unhappiness

1% get 90% of world income - US$70 trillion a year - while doing less than 1% of the work - ie, stealing US$70,000 off every family in the world - plus stealing 99% of human happiness with it

the 99% underpaid could do something about this - they could spread the word quite safely, and activate the 99% in their own interests, and in the survival of life and the restoration of natural human happiness, about 100 times the happiness we have

but they are not doing so

99% are enslaved to 1%, and humanity is racing to extinction, and we are doing nothing ethical, ie nothing to save ourselves - we are not being realistic, aware, awake, responsible, mature, showing leadership, being active, responding to reality, seeking out better awareness of reality

the fundamental principle of the american dream, limitation of fortunes, prevention of wealth concentration [ie, theft] is not being taught anywhere, at any level

we are being evil, ie, we are being selfdestructive

society doesnt even know that the true meaning of evil is: failing to take advantage of opportunities for increase of happiness, being selfdestructive

there are not enough in the herd with clear ideas to drive society even to pursuit of happiness!

we do not even suspect that obedience and disobedience are the essence of immorality, unethical behaviour, selfdestruction, evil

ethics is thinking for yourself, doing your best to maximise your happiness by realism, ie, maturity

obedience and disobedience are selfmurder, an end to thinking, an end to pursuit of your happiness

obedience and disobedience are sleep, death, robotism

ethics is being awake, and striving to become ever more awake, more real

who was there to tell hitler, and america, and the first world - or even to know - that plunder [going for getting out of society more than you put in, ie, theft, injustice] is a very bad happiness strategy?

that every injury [harm to people] produces an equal and opposite reaction, that making a heap of plunder is only making yourself attractive to plunderers [righteous plunderers, the ones stolen from], and the endless costs of defense of the heap will in time eat all the heap of plunder?

as has happened to hitler, britain, and to every dead empire, and is happening to the first world and to america

the first world, after plundering the world for centuries, is now on the brink of exhaustion of power to hold on to the plunder, and will drown in the sea of attackers - america after plundering africa of labour, and building itself up on the backs of blacks and underpaid immigrants, is now paying enormous costs in defense against illegal immigrants and the righteous plundered - has already succumbed to the plundering by mafia, now bigger than the five biggest corporations, and ruling and controlling american govt

full satisfaction of desires comes from moderation - ie, immoderation causes a decline of satisfaction

If everyone were totally ethical we would need no laws. Society in general is not very good at weighing ethics - we have too many laws.
