Any time there is lightning you need to be far away from ANY body of water and definitely not in it.

Most inground pools have a lightning rod grounding the pool. That still does not make it safe for anyone to be in the pool when it's lightning or even thundering.

Play it safe and get out of the pool.'

Water does not attract lightning any more than anything else does. But water can conduct electricity - that's why they warn you not to use your toaster in the bathtub and stuff like that. Any electricity gets to the water in the pool, and you are in the pool, then the electricity gets you. If there's lightning around, you need to get INSIDE a building, or even a car (and it's not because of the rubber tires, it's because of the metal "cage"). I don't know if an indoor pool is safe, it might be, but I'm not sure I'd want to be the first to find out that it isn't!

I am guessing that you have an underground house since you have an underground pool. It is still best to get out of the pool.

Where there is a will there is a way and lightning may find that way.

People do take baths in there tubs when there is lightning but still best not to swim in the underground pool.

I have heard that lightning has traveled through the house phone lines and killed people but that is not anything I know for a fact.

Don't be on the house phone while in the tub or in the pool.

The lightning always find its shortest root to reach the ground..If a man stands in a pool his head will be above the water level. So the electricity from lightning will attack the person in swimming pool. Not only at swimming pool if the person is tall amoung the group of persons it will attack the tallest person only..

Generally a bad thing.

The pool won't necessarily attract lightning, but the water would help conduct current throughout the pool.

Do you really want to take that chance? At every public swimming pool I've ever been to, they have you get out of the water when a thunderstorm rolls in.
