Really? I thought rappers and ****** were both icons with today's youth. It's really hard to get away from either one flipping through the TV channels. So ... Queer Eye and Who's line is It ... Isn't doing the marketing job for you guys ...huh? Guess it's back into the closet.

i'm not sure what your teachers are like, but i went to high scnool in a very rural place. sometimes students would make racist jokes and the teacher would just laugh. i had other kids tell me if they ever met a gay person they would shoot them. some teachers may be too afraid to stand up for you. others may be bigoted. still, others may just not understand. the people who are your teachers now, what decade was it when they were in high school? even if it eas just 8 or 10 years ago, they may have been in a different world. besides, they are probably straight, and honestly, most straight people haven't the first clue about seeing things from our point of view.
i'm sorry you're being picked on... i'm not sure going to a chool official would help anything! read something inspiring by a prominent gay person or even just something by mlk. seriously, just put some positive stuff in so the bullies don't suck you dry.

It's really not just gay students, but teachers won't do anything, much like out justice system, unless someone is seriously hurt. When I was in grade school I had been picked on so mercilessly. Kids were spitting on me and dancing around me singing ugly songs. The teacher did nothing. However, when I popped a girl one, just once, I had gotten into trouble for defending myself. It's a sad sad world

Teachers don't care - they are too busy b itching that they don't make enough money (this despite the fact that they get TWO MONTHS OFF every year, plus EVERY MAJOR HOLIDAY). They are also too busy with their teachers union lefty politics.
Screw 'em. My advice to gay students: take up karate and put some whoop a ss on the bullies.
Love, Jack.
PS: It's funny - I went to hi school in the 80s, and there was a group of gay kids, and no one bothered them. I think it was because they were cool, and always had good pot. They were, incidentally, in my immediate circle - I was VERY intrigued, but it took me YEARS to come out... :-(

Unfortunately, I think they can, and if they allow such stuff, they are very, very poor teachers, indeed. IF I were you, I think I would write a letter to such a teacher and tell them the damage that their keeping their mouths shut in these instances has caused. Poor teachers exist everywhere. Poor idiots exist everywhere. Just because someone is a teacher does not exempt them from being poor idiots. But, I think a letter to all teachers who see this happening, yet stand by, should recieve a copy detailing the pain you experienced. This should not be left unrecorded. Good luck

Some teachers may be uncomfortable with the idea of gay students at all, conflicts with their' moral' values so they look the other way.
Hopefully teachers are being taught to not look the other way and realize that bullying is bullying no matter who does it or why . And if they persist in looking the other way they are as much of the problem as the bullies are.

because a lot of teachers, as well as parents are ignorant. today, there's a lot of the same crap going on in school as when I was a kid. and ANYONE different was a target. kids are mean, and always have been. and a lot of that is because they've been raised by parents who were the same way. if someone is "different" they are bad somehow. I don't recall when I was little being aware of anyone "gay" in school. but anyone who was a different color or religion, any kid who was fat, or poor and dirty, or not as cute as the others, wasn't good as sports....they were picked on, beat up, etc.
until people get more involved and take action, this will continue. parents and teachers alike need to be more aware and sensitive. and quit teaching kids that different is bad!

Kids are mean... plain and simple. And they gang up and pick on the weakest link available. Gay, fat, smart, stupid... whoever is the different one gets the grief.
Teachers can only fix what they see and most are too busy trying to get good test scores out of kids these days to take care of standing up for everyone who needs help.
So... when you see someone picking on a gay student, stand up for them. Get your friends to stand up for them, too. Don't let those who are stronger get away with bullying everyone else. Take a stand.

They do, but there's not a lot an individual teacher can do. With all the restrictions and prohibitions teachers are expected to follow or loose their jobs, many are simply afraid to get involved.
Yes, it's a terribly sad commentary on today's society, isn't it?

It is a hard cruel world out there, and it maybe that it is necessary for one to tough up and live in it. Get used to it, a lot of the world do not approve of the gay community and activity of any kind. Why must they push their agenda down the throats of the rest of the students and teachers.
Certainly if they are being harmed in a physical way, those doing the harming need to be accountable to their actions also.

When I was in school as it still is today - It is not only 'gay'. It's anyone that is different in ANY way.
Life doesn't change, even out of school. People who are insecure with themselves will always look for someone else as a weakness to cover their own!
