I was going to answer this with a quip -- but I'm not going to.
No, its not. Like much of what all fundamentalist religions believe -- that's false.
The premise ignores two hard facts --
-- that the vast majority of abused children become straight adults
-- that the vast majority of gays were never abused
The premise does indicate however that some Muslim's are reading a lot of Christian fundamentalist teaching. That idea was most recently been forwarded by Richard Cohen, a fundamentalist Christian counselor (now permanently expelled from the American Counseling Association for professional misconduct).
Mr. Cohen, and your friend can assert lies all they want -- homosexuality will still be inborn when they are all done.

Reynolds

Hog wash! Child abuse begets child abusers, not gay people! Children who are abused grow up to be 4 times more likely to abuse their own children than those who were not abused. Parents do NOT make their children gay by parenting, they produce gay children because of their genetic make up. ONe in 10 children is born to be gay...no decisions, no actions, no weak father image, no overbearing mother image does this. Genes do all the work by themselves. A person who is born, prone to be Gay, can control it and act out a straight life, but that life will have a huge hole in it...loneliness and a lack of great love. IF that is what the bible and straight people wish on their children, they should NOT have children, period. Everyone stands an equal chance of having Gay children...homophobes, Pastors of fundamentalist churches, liberals, conservatives, you name it...they all have the same chance of having Gay children. Unfortunately, many of these same people want a scape goat for some unknown reason, so they blame Gays as having seduced their children. I will tell you, that if being straight were such a fragile thing that a seduction was all it took to convert the child to being Gay, then the race would have died out long ago. Children are born Straight or Gay. Period. Straights cannot decide, one day, to be Gay for the rest of their lives, and Gays cannot decide to be STraight for the rest of their lives. To think otherwise is utter nonsense.

I have had people say that to me, and it is a total disrespect of my parents. I get pretty pissed off when people say it to me.
My parents were....nothing short of PERFECT. I had a great relationship with my dad and mom. They both accepted me as being gay since I was 19.
This is the way I was born. I knew I was "different" when I was 5.
Your Muslim friend is straight. How would he know about gay people? Think about that the next time your Muslim friend offers you knowledge. Religious people always play the blame-game when it comes to other sexual orientations.
Talk to gay people to get the truth.
Would you go up to a gay white man on the street and ask him a question about the Muslim religion?
No...you'd ask your Muslim friend.

no being gay is not a result of child abuse. I was never abused as a child, but I have always had an attraction to the same sex. Your muslim friend is highly mistaken, being gay is not a choice, it is in you from birth.

No, not all. Some, but only as many gays are as straights. So, there's no real correlation.
If there was a cause for being gay, don't you think someone would have stumbled upon the "cure" by now?
Well, sure there are those groups who "Claim" to be able to "cure" gays, but they're all shams, scheisters and con-artists. Not one of these groups keeps any kind of record of their supposed "success rate." And the two most prominent groups spokespersons both went back to being gay!
Hmmmm...maybe there's no cure because it's not a disease or disorder? It's simply an NORMAL and NATURAL HUMAN SEXUAL VARIANT!

That an abused child wil always be gay?
NO. ther are many things that can have this effect of the person on gay or not.
Some are medical issues that have arisen over the evealution of man. One thing you can do is lookit up onthe internet. Kleinfelters Syndrome is jsutone of the many things that has created gay or lesibein childern. NOT IN ALL CASES BUT IN A FEW.

no, it's not. a lot of people think it is. I've known and heard of many straight and gay people who had some sort of abuse as a child, but that has nothing to do with forming your sexual orientation. everyone is born with the predispostion of being gay or straight...it's genetic. I was not abused as a child...I had hetero parents, didn't know anyone growing up openly gay, and didn't meet anyone gay until long after I realized I was lesbian. the argument that some sort of abuse or "influence" as a child "causing" you to turn gay is a load of crap created by bigots.

No it is not. The only connection I've ever seen is that kids that are abused, tend to go into counseling and may be more in tune with themselves then kids that have not. But because there are statistically more straights then gays (not going into bisexuals here because that is always debated *what makes them bi vs straight or gay etc), actually more straights are abused then gays as children.

Your muslim friend is sadly misinformed. You DON'T CHOOSE TO BE GAY!!!! It isn't from chld abuse or any other kind of abuse. You're born gay, the same way some people are born disabled, neither has any choice in the matter.
Who would actually CHOOSE to be gay, with all the abuse they must endure from ' religious' people etc.

Your friend is wrong. If there is a cause for being Gay it has not been found. You got bad info from unreliable source. There is NO CONNECTION with abuse and becoming homosexual. Maybe your friend is gay and is looking for excuse since his religion would never allow it!
