Make sure to bend your knees so that you're putting all of your weight forward as you're swinging your arm down.

I'm a nationally certified Tennis Instructor and former Top 20 player in New England, so I feel particularly qualified to answer your question.

Just as topspin allows you to hit your groundstrokes hard and still keep the ball in, it does the same for the serve.

During the serve, most people make the mistake of hitting the ball at the very top of their forward swing, with the racquet pointed vertically straight up it the air. This only allows you to hit the ball flat (no spin) or with a small amount of backspin, neither of which is good because only topspin will make the ball dive down into the court as you hit it harder.

To impart topspin on the ball during the serve, snap your wrist hard as you swing forward and upwards towards the ball, and make sure you meet the ball a few inches before the top of your swing while the raqcquet head is still rising into the vertical position.

This motion creates topspin and allows you to hit the ball harder but still keep it in.

I played tennis in College, was in the top 20 in USA. I am a teaching Pro now.

My advice is to use all your body strength and go after the ball. What I mean is to toss the ball in front of you, bend your knees and jump after it. It is not about how strong your arm is, is more about how you use your whole body to give the ball power.

At first it may be hard but with a little practice you will get the hang of it.

Well do you have a friend that can help you practice? I think that would be a lot of help, all ways have a good position, when you do a serve then it will be a better serve and as you practice you will get really good at it.
Hope this helps.
Teresa.

Tennis needs a very good technique.. You must ask your teacher to show you.. 1 advice: After you have hit the ball at the servis close the head of your racket and put her down. Also when you are doing servis your soulder must look at the place that you want to fall the ball..Good luck!!

Practice throwing a ball to build arm speed. If your serve is going out toss it further out.

Start doing arm workouts by working your triceps and biceps. The stronger your arms get, the more powerful your serve gets too!!!

first of all you need to make sure that you have the right grip. when you have a continental grip toss the ball a little to the right if you are a righty. then hit the ball at the highest you can hit the ball. then make sure to hit in front and snap your wrist. make sure you are a little into the court when you are done hitting.
