I tell people to go as themselves. that way you will enjoy the convention and be able to walk around without worrying about tripping, falling, getting dirty, sweating to death, being stopped for pictures, and most importantly, not being laughed at by normal people who go to cons just to enjoy the experience.
Just go to panels, shop the tables, get autographs and be a "normal geek"
